Little Waddon Vineyard: Our Shepherd’s Hut and Hot Tub Stay in Dorset

Nestled in a tranquil dip beneath the South Dorset Ridgeway, just minutes from the sea air of Chesil Beach, Little Waddon Vineyard offers a delightfully intimate coastal countryside escape. This small, independent boutique vineyard focuses on sustainable, natural winemaking, cultivating its vines on rich coastal soils and Jurassic Coast breezes.

We were greeted on arrival by our hosts, Simon and Karen. The vineyard offers two-night stays during the autumn, winter and spring seasons, shifting to three-night stays during the summer. Nightly rates run from £152 in January up to £175 from March to October, and £195 over Christmas and New Year (prices checked in October 2026). The hot tub is an extra £50 per stay, which covers the fresh water, the firewood and the cleaning (note: the accommodation is adult-only and no pets are allowed). We booked a two-night cosy winter getaway in the Little Waddon Vineyard shepherd’s hut in January 2024.

The Layout & Outdoor Amenities

The accommodation setup is arranged across a set of dedicated spaces: the cosy shepherd’s hut, a separate spacious shower room, and a private, sheltered wood-fired hot tub overlooking the vines.

Along with the hot tub, the outdoor area is fully equipped for outdoor living, featuring a BBQ for meals and a fire pit, ideal for us to snuggle around on the crisp winter evenings to stay warm, while drinking our hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows.

Inside the Cabin: Fully Equipped for a Winter Weekend

Inside, the cabin is thoughtfully designed and cosy, providing everything you need for a snug winter weekend away. The living space features a comfortable sofa positioned perfectly to take in the vineyard views, plus the warmth of the wood-burning stove.

Despite its intimate size, the kitchenette is fully equipped for a relaxed self catering stay, complete with a small fridge, toaster, pots, pans, mugs, glasses, and all essential cooking utensils. We stopped for a supermarket shop on the way, which meant we were completely stocked up and ready for a quiet, fuss free weekend of relaxation without ever having to leave our little haven.

Cosy Rustic Accommodation

What makes a stay here so memorable is the seamless mix of rustic charm and effortless relaxation. Positioned directly alongside the rows of vines, the cosy shepherd’s hut retreat provides a peaceful sanctuary complete with floor to ceiling windows in the cabin, offering expansive views across the valley.

There is deliberately no TV, radio, or microwave, allowing you to completely disconnect and immerse yourself in the quiet surroundings. Bring a good book for slow evenings and your wellies for long local walks!

Because we visited in mid-winter, we were grateful for the wood-burning stove in the corner of the hut.

Winter Tip: Make sure to light the log burner well before bedtime so the hut is lovely and warm when you turn in! The bed itself is comfortable, complete with a thick duvet and extra blankets for chilly nights.

Note for travellers: Space is limited inside the hut, and there isn’t any real hanging space for clothes, so plan to live out of your suitcase or overnight bag during your stay.

Facilities & The Shower Room

The separate shower room is located in a nearby building, just a few steps from the shepherd’s hut. It’s a spacious room equipped with a hot shower, toilet, sink, towels, toiletries, and cosy bathrobes, which came in extremely handy for moving to and from the hot tub!

During a winter stay, the short walk between the hut and the shower room can be brisk. If you need to use the facilities late at night or early in the morning, be sure to use the torch provided by the hosts to navigate in the dark.

Outdoor Living & The Wood-Fired Hot Tub

The outdoor space surrounding the hut is exceptional, featuring a private decked area overlooking the vineyards. It’s the perfect spot to sip your morning coffee or enjoy a glass of Little Waddon’s own wine, which was thoughtfully waiting for us upon arrival.

Tucked under a sheltered canopy, you’ll find the private, wood-fired hot tub along with a BBQ setup. We spent both of our January evenings outdoors, soaking in the hot tub under the stars with a glass of wine, followed by hot chocolates sitting outside by the fire.

Highlights of Little Waddon Vineyard

  • Unwinding Under the Stars: Sinking into a steaming wood-fired hot tub with a glass of local wine while watching the sunset and star filled night sky is magic.
  • Low-Intervention Philosophy: Simon and Karen practise chemical-free, low-intervention viticulture, crafting small batch wines that reflect the unique character of the Dorset landscape.
  • Gateway to the Jurassic Coast: It serves as an ideal base for coastal hikes, visits to the historic Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, or relaxed dinners at nearby local village pubs.

It’s the kind of place where time naturally slows down, making a short weekend getaway feel like a complete reset.
