Arrival and First Impressions
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that customer satisfaction is the top priority at the Oberoi Mumbai. The friendly door staff greeted us on the ground floor, immediately relieving us of our luggage. We then took the elevator to the first floor, where the lobby was decorated in all its festive glory. With Christmas just around the corner, the space was adorned with tasteful decorations, including a giant Christmas tree beside a red piano. The polite, smiling staff welcomed us warmly, and the seamless check in process ensured we were quickly shown to our room.

The Suite: A Birthday Surprise
Our suite, located on the 14th floor (room 1456), was beyond extraordinary. Mark had arranged a special surprise to celebrate my 50th birthday, and the hotel went above and beyond to make it unforgettable. Red and white balloons filled the suite, along with a bouquet of red roses, custom cushions with “50” embroidered on them, chocolates, a cake and a card.

The suite itself was immense, featuring:
- Two large picture windows offering stunning sea views and sunsets.
- A lounge area with a sofa, armchairs, desk, TV, minibar, and tea/coffee making facilities.
- A massive walk-in wardrobe complete with silk robes and slippers.
- A bedroom with a plush king sized bed, TV, and a bowl of fresh fruit.
- A spacious bathroom with a freestanding bath, separate shower and toilet, dual sinks, fluffy bathrobes, and luxurious toiletries.
They truly thought of everything, including a button to call the butler or housekeeping at any time.
Dining Experiences
Vetro
On our first night, we dined at Vetro, the hotel’s Italian restaurant. The experience began with an amuse bouche of mushroom velouté and handmade breadsticks. Unfortunately, I discovered a small piece of plastic in the velouté. The staff responded swiftly and apologetically, with the head chef offering complimentary appetisers and desserts.

Our mains included a hearty wild mushroom risotto and a truffle tagliatelle, though the latter’s portion size was underwhelming. A surprise awaited as the evening singer serenaded me with “Happy Birthday”, accompanied by a cake with candles. Even though I was slightly embarrassed, it was a delightful end to the meal.

The service and attention to detail were commendable, but the portion sizes and pricing could be improved. Click the link for the Vetro menu.
Fenix
Breakfast, included in our stay, offered a choice between Vetro and Fenix. On our first morning, we opted for the buffet-style breakfast at Fenix, which featured an extensive spread and additional menu options. I enjoyed truffle scrambled eggs and fresh fruit. The restaurant and beverages manager, along with the head chef, personally greeted us and wished me a happy birthday. The chef even offered to prepare a special lunch for us on our final day, a gesture that highlighted the exceptional service.

The Eau Bar
One evening, we enjoyed pre-dinner cocktails at The Eau Bar. The atmosphere was elegant and relaxed, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. Subdued lighting set the mood, accompanied by the soothing sounds of a live pianist. The bar offered an extensive cocktail and drinks menu, along with a selection of tempting bar snacks.

Ziya

On our second night, we dined at Ziya, the hotel’s fine dining Indian restaurant. Opting for the seven course tasting menu (INR 7500/GBP 70) with the wine pairing (INR 3500/GBP 33), we were treated to an extraordinary culinary journey. Each course was a masterpiece, beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. The open kitchen allowed Mark to watch the chefs expertly work the tandoor ovens, adding a unique touch to the experience.

Outstanding food and service made this meal a highlight of our stay. It’s worth every penny for those seeking a memorable dining experience. Click the link for the Ziya menu
Spa & Pool
Seeing as this was a treat for my birthday plus our last couple of days on this wonderful trip, we also made use of the pool and spa facilities.

The hotel has a small outdoor pool which we found too windy to sit for any length of time. However, we also had use of the pool at their sister adjoining hotel, The Trident. This was a sunnier aspect, with plenty of sun beds and was quiet when I attended. I did not use the pool as it was very cold.
The spa at The Oberoi was nothing short of amazing. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a sense of calm. The facilities were immaculate, featuring a fully equipped changing room complete with a sauna, perfect for unwinding before or after your treatment.
On arrival, I was provided with a personal locker, a plush bathrobe, and soft slippers, setting the tone for a truly luxurious experience. I chose a treatment I hadn’t tried before, and it exceeded all expectations. The therapist was skilled and attentive, and the entire experience left me feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated.
