DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok – Comfortable, Central & Great Value
When visiting Bangkok, we wanted a reasonably priced, centrally located hotel for our first few nights and the DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok delivered exactly that.
This hotel offered comfort, convenience, and excellent value, making it a solid base for exploring Thailand’s bustling capital.
Where Is DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok Located?
The DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok (Ploenchit) is well positioned for sightseeing and getting around the city. Our journey from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) took just over one hour by Grab, although travel time can vary significantly depending on traffic and time of day. Cost for this was THB550 (£13), plus tip.
It can take some time to get a Grab, it gets very busy! The signs are not great as to where the pick up point is and the queues can be a bit crazy!
Check-In Experience & First Impressions
There was no waiting at reception on arrival, and we were checked in quickly by a friendly and efficient staff member. And yes, we received the famous DoubleTree warm cookie on arrival (apparently a signature welcome across all DoubleTree hotels!).

Our luggage was promptly delivered to our Premium King room on the 18th floor, which offered great views across Bangkok’s skyline. Mark has Hilton Gold status, so breakfast for us was included. Also, as they couldn’t upgrade us, we were given a free drinks voucher to enjoy at the bar.
Room & Facilities – Spacious and Well Equipped
The room was surprisingly spacious, especially for a city hotel, and well set up for both short and longer stays. We stayed in 3 different rooms on different floors on each of our visits. All 3 were the same level of room, but all three were slightly different in layout.
Room Features Included:
- Comfortable bed with crisp linens
- Minibar
- Tea & coffee-making facilities
- Complimentary bottled drinking water
- Two wardrobes
- Iron and ironing board
- In-room safe
- Air conditioning
The bathroom was equally well equipped, featuring:
- Sink
- Walk-in shower
- Separate bathtub
- Fluffy towels
- Hairdryer (stored in the wardrobe)
- Weighing scales (always handy!)
Rooms were cleaned daily, keeping everything fresh and comfortable throughout our stay.

Breakfast at DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok
Breakfast was included in our stay as a perk of the Hilton Honors Gold status (it’s usually an optional extra), and it was served buffet style with a wide variety of choices.
Options included:
- Egg station
- Cold meats
- Dim sum
- Fresh fruit
- Hot cooked dishes
You name it, you could have it. There was plenty to choose from, and judging by the very full plates around the room, many guests were clearly stocking up before heading out for a busy day of sightseeing!
Gym & Pool Facilities
The hotel gym, located on the 7th floor, is small but functional, ideal if you want a quick treadmill session or some light weight training.
The swimming pool, also located on the 7th floor, is compact with a handful of sun loungers. While not large, it’s perfect for a refreshing dip after a day exploring the city, followed by an hour relaxing with a good book.

One Small Downside
There is a designated seated smoking area behind the sun loungers near the wall by the gym windows. If you’re a non-smoker, this isn’t ideal, especially when trying to relax poolside.
Spa at DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok
The hotel also has an independent on site spa, also located on the 7th floor. We booked in for a couple of treatments during our stay, which made for a welcome break from sightseeing.

Getting Around Bangkok from the Hotel
While you can easily order a Grab directly from the hotel to explore the city, Bangkok traffic can be intense at certain times of day.
Our recommendation?
Use the MRT (underground) or the BTS Skytrain which is within walking distance of the hotel. They’re cheap, clean, efficient, and air-conditioned, a lifesaver in Bangkok’s heat! Alternatively you can take the water taxis, which is also cheap, just no air-conditioning!

We also walked a lot, clocking up 32km in just three days while visiting major tourist attractions and exploring different neighbourhoods.
Is DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok Worth Staying At? – Our Verdict
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok.
What We Liked:
✔️ Good central location
✔️ Excellent value for a Hilton hotel
✔️ Friendly and efficient staff
✔️ Large, comfortable rooms
✔️ Daily housekeeping
✔️ Great breakfast selection
If you’re looking for a reliable, comfortable Bangkok hotel that offers good value without sacrificing quality, the DoubleTree by Hilton is a solid choice, especially for your first few nights in the city.
The average cost for each night was approximately £90, which is extremely good for a 5 star hotel in December in Bangkok.
Note – On this trip to Thailand (Dec 2025) we stayed at the DoubleTree 8 nights in total on 3 separate occasions, due to amending travel plans as the Thailand/Cambodia border conflict had started up again!
