Whether you’re wandering through colourful alleyways in search of murals, sampling food at a roadside stand, or browsing for unique souvenirs in independent stores, everything is within easy walking distance. Its central location allowed us to explore George Town effortlessly by day and enjoy its lively atmosphere by night, all while returning to the peace and comfort of our beautiful room.

We stayed in a spacious and beautifully appointed suite at Campbell House, offering the perfect balance of timeless colonial charm and modern convenience. The attention to detail in the room’s design was exceptional, with wooden furnishings, elegant fabrics, and vintage touches that reflected the heritage of this boutique hotel. One of our favourite features was the stunning bathroom, where vibrant yellow tiles added a cheerful and stylish pop of colour, definitely one of the most memorable bathrooms we’ve seen on our travels.
The suite came fully equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing and comfortable stay, including:

- A mini fridge to keep drinks and snacks cool
- Powerful air conditioning
- A ceiling fan for extra ventilation
- A huge, incredibly comfortable bed with crisp linens
These thoughtful amenities made all the difference, especially during the warmer afternoons, allowing us to return from exploring the city and unwind in a comfortable, peaceful and luxurious suite.

One of the highlights of our stay was the delicious breakfast included each morning. The menu offered a fantastic selection, beginning with a fresh fruit platter, followed by hot cooked dishes and pastries.
The breakfast restaurant transforms into an Italian fine dining space in the evening. While we didn’t dine there on this occasion, it was always busy with guests.

What truly set Campbell House apart was the impeccable service. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcomed with their friendliness, and attention to detail. Each morning began with friendly chats in the lobby area before we headed out for the day. These conversations included helpful tips and personalised recommendations for exploring George Town, which really enhanced our experience.
One particularly thoughtful touch was the handy map of George Town Penang they provided at check in. Not only did it highlight major attractions, but the staff took the time to circle key places to visit, hidden gems, and even spots to skip if we were short on time. This level of service allowed us to discover things we might have otherwise missed.
Whether it was pointing us toward the best street food stalls, must see Penang street art, or suggesting a relaxing spa experience (see our separate review!), the staff consistently went above and beyond. Their insider knowledge and genuine enthusiasm made a huge difference and added a personal layer to our stay that you simply don’t get at larger hotels.
